Markyate, a picturesque village steeped in history, was the perfect setting for my latest painting and decorating project. As I worked on the hall, stairs, and landing of an Edwardian cottage, I couldn’t help but be inspired by the character of the surrounding area—especially its stunning front doors.
A Nod to Edwardian Elegance
The cottage itself was full of period charm, with its high ceilings and traditional details. I wanted to bring that same elegance into the interior while ensuring it felt fresh and modern for the young family moving in. This meant taking extra care with the color palette, opting for subtle tones that complemented the property’s character.
Drawing Inspiration from the Village
While in Markyate, I couldn’t resist capturing some of the gorgeous front doors that make the village so special. These doors, with their pastel shades and decorative details, served as a reminder of how thoughtful design can enhance a home’s curb appeal. The clients loved this idea, and we incorporated elements of timeless Edwardian design into the interior.
Attention to Detail
From repairing a cracked ceiling to sanding and painting newly installed woodwork, every detail of this project was carefully considered. The highlight for me was working on the bespoke cupboard door, which now stands as a functional yet beautiful feature in the hallway.
A Happy Ending
Markyate’s charm wasn’t just in its aesthetics—it was also in the people. The clients were wonderful to work with, and their delight in the finished project made all the hard work worthwhile. It’s always a privilege to help transform a house into a home, especially when it’s for a growing family.
This project reminded me why I love what I do. Each job is an opportunity to bring out the best in a space while making my clients’ vision a reality. And when it happens in such a lovely village, it’s even more rewarding.
