At Alex Amery Painting and Decorating, every project tells a story—and this one in Markyate was extra special. Tasked with transforming the hall, stairs, and landing of a beautiful Edwardian cottage for a couple expecting their first baby, we worked hard to create a space that combined charm, functionality, and a polished finish.
The Brief
The clients wanted a clean, welcoming aesthetic that complemented the character of their home. My carpenter friend played a crucial role in the project, building a gorgeous new handrail with spindles and a bespoke cupboard door, both of which needed seamless painting and decorating to blend into the home's style.
Challenges We Tackled
No renovation project is without its hurdles, and this one had a couple of tricky challenges:
A Cracked Ceiling: The ceiling had a large crack that required careful filling and sanding to achieve a smooth, flawless look.
Brand-New Woodwork: All the woodwork—from the handrails to skirting boards and the cupboard door—was newly installed. It needed meticulous sanding, priming, and filling to ensure a professional finish.
The Process
Preparation is everything in decorating, and this project was no exception. From sanding down surfaces to filling imperfections, I paid close attention to every detail to ensure the final result was picture-perfect.
The newly installed woodwork was primed and painted to complement the cottage's timeless style. A soft, neutral palette was chosen for the walls and ceiling, creating a light and airy feel while allowing the unique features of the home to shine.
The Result
The transformation was stunning. The once-cracked ceiling became flawlessly smooth, and the beautifully painted woodwork added a touch of craftsmanship that elevated the entire space. Most importantly, the clients were thrilled with the outcome, leaving me a glowing 5-star review on Google.
